Description / Expertise
An excellent quality London made antique mahogany wheel barometer with rare 6" dial.
The unusually small 6" diameter silvered brass dial calibrated from 28" to 31" with engraved weather indications and further decorative engraving to the centre. The barometer reading is indicated by a blued steel hand and can be recorded with a brass set hand controlled with the wooden set key below the main dial. The dial enclosed within a glazed convex brass bezel which is fixed from the rear of the case. The removable alcohol thermometer set on a silvered brass scale calibrated from 10º to 130º Fahrenheit. Also with hygrometer and level to the base of the barometer showing the makers name and place of work.
The mahogany veneered case with high quality flame veneers throughout and edged with ebony inlay. The swan neck top with ebony paterea and brass finial.
