GEORGE SMITH (worked from c.1780) Rare Set of 6 George III Silver Wine Coasters (1788 Sheffield)

Excellent with no damage or repairs to the piercing. The hallmarks are a bit rubbed however the date mark can be seen on all 6 coasters and the makers mark on 5 of the coasters - see photos below. Wine coasters often have indistinct marks when they are stamped on the edge of the base. There is a small split to 1 of the woods and a tiny split next to one of the hallmarks

A particularly fine set of 6 antique sterling silver coasters with pierced silver galleries, bright cut borders and turned hardwood centres. There are cut out medallions to the sides and an engraved crest to the front.
