Circa 1815, a very fine and rare Regency four door breakfront mahogany bookcase. The top of the bookcase has four glazed doors with unusual geometric astragals which are in mahogany and some have been stained to resemble ebony. All of the top section retains its original glass and the unusual feature of the astragals as they have roundels where the astragals meet and conjoin. Inside there are adjustable shelves with shaped and ribbed fronts, the gables and the back of the bookcase are also solid mahogany. The breakfront cornice again has mahogany and ebonised features, with rounded corners in the centre and at the end. There are four fluted and ringed columns that come down the front of the bookcase and continue to the base. On the bottom there are four mahogany doors which are framed with ebonised beading, crossbanding and a wonderful flamed mahogany centre panel which is repeated across the four doors. Inside the base cupboards there are also mahogany adjustable shelves. The beading on the 2 centre doors on the bottom are ribbed and in cast brass. The whole bookcase stands on a set of 6 turned mahogany and ebonised bulbous bun feet, and is in excellent condition.
