Description / Expertise
A superb George I burr walnut & feather banded bureau bookcase of compact proportions and retaining excellent colour and patina.
The top section with an internal arrangement of adjustable shelves with concave moulding out-stepped at each corner to form pillars which border an opening single door with a bevelled mirror plate and single candle slide beneath.
The fall of the bureau section opens to reveal a central cupboard and an arrangement of pigeon holes and drawers, with a leather lined writing surface. The fall is supported by a pair of retractable lopers which are separated by two short feather-banded, oak lined drawers fitted with oval escutcheons and brass ring pull handles, below a further three long graduated drawers. The bookcase is supported on burr walnut bracket feet. A truly superb quality piece, with choice use of quality burr veneers throughout its construction.
