Description / Expertise

A fine early George III Cuban mahogany kettle stand, retaining excellent colour & patina. The circular top with carved and moulded “pie-crust” top over a turned column, with rings, bobbins and a central fluted spiral twist collar. The table is supported on a tripod base of three cabriole legs with acanthus leaf carved knees terminating in an elongated pad foot. A table of very neat proportions apparently in fine original condition.

This type of low, diminutive topped table was normally used for standing a tea kettle on, for the ceremonial Georgian process of “taking tea”. Today most people find the height and small size extremely convenient to use the piece as a wine or drinks table.
